カナダはトロントを拠点に活動する Kevin Cahill と Patrick Cahill からなる兄弟デュオ East of the Valley Blues による、アコースティック･ギターを中心としたインストゥルメンタル･アルバムが、UKの名門 Death Is Not The End からリリースされました。John Fahey や Robbie Basho といった、アメリカン･プリミティヴ･ギターと呼ばれる孤高のギタリストたちの精神を受け継いだ演奏スタイルで、兄 Kevin はパーカッシヴでアタック感のあるナイロン弦、弟 Patrick は澄んだ響きのスチール弦を担当し、兄弟ふたりによる息の合った即興演奏を展開。ステレオの音響処理によって2人の演奏は左右に振り分けられており、ヘッドフォンなどで聞いていただくと2本のギターの音がまるで中央でひとつに溶け合うような、ダイナミックな立体音響を体感できます。

An instrumental album centered on acoustic guitar has been released by the prestigious UK label Death Is Not The End, featuring East of the Valley Blues—a duo comprising Toronto-based brothers Kevin and Patrick Cahill. Their playing style carries on the spirit of the "American Primitive" guitar movement pioneered by singular artists like John Fahey and Robbie Basho; older brother Kevin plays a nylon-string guitar with a percussive, punchy attack, while younger brother Patrick plays a steel-string guitar with a clear, resonant tone, creating a seamless, improvisational interplay. Through stereo mixing, the two performances are panned to the left and right channels; when listening on headphones, one can experience a dynamic, three-dimensional soundscape where the tones of the two guitars seem to melt together in the center.
