Concentration Camp 【VINTAGE】- C-LOC

1990年代後半、ルイジアナ州バトンルージュのヒップホップ・シーンにおいて先駆的な役割を果たしたレーベル Camp Life Entertainment。その創設者である C-Loc を筆頭に、Young Bleed、Laylow、Lee Tymeといった地元の才能が集結したコレクティブ、Concentration Camp によるコンピレーション作品がカセットフォーマットで入荷しました。

本作の核となるのは、後にメジャーシーンでも名を馳せるプロデューサー Happy Perez が構築した、メロディックかつ重厚なバトンルージュ・サウンドです。西海岸のG-Funkからの影響を感じさせつつも、サウス特有の湿り気を帯びたソウル・サンプリングと、インディペンデント特有のラフな質感が共存。Young BleedがNo Limit Recordsと契約し、ナショナル・チャートへ浮上する直前の、極めて純度の高いローカルなエネルギーが記録されています。

Camp Life Entertainment was a pioneering label in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana hip-hop scene of the late 1990s. We’ve just received a cassette compilation from Concentration Camp, a collective led by founder C-Loc that brought together local talents such as Young Bleed, Laylow, and Lee Tyme.

At the heart of this release is the melodic yet heavy Baton Rouge sound crafted by producer Happy Perez, who would later make a name for himself on the major label scene. While evoking influences from West Coast G-Funk, it seamlessly blends the humid, soulful sampling characteristic of the South with the raw, independent-label texture. It captures the incredibly pure, local energy from just before Young Bleed signed with No Limit Records and broke into the national charts.

A soundscape that reflects the intensity of Louisiana’s independent scene at the time and the region’s identity.
