フィンランド南都部カレリア地方の高名な民族楽器カンテレ奏者 Iivana Mišukka が、手回し式の再生装置「蝋管蓄音機」に残したフィールドレコーディング録音を基に、現代のカンテレ奏者 Arja Kastinen が自身の演奏と110年前の音源とを合わせて再構築した貴重な音源集が、世界各国に眠る秘蔵音源を発掘してきたロンドン発の Death Is Not The End からリリースされました。ツィターや琴･ギターの響きにも似た、煌びやかで優しいカンテレの音色が奏でる、カレリア地方の伝統的なフォーク･ダンス音楽を当時の伝統的な奏法で忠実に再現。掠れた音質やノイズ、古い蝋管録音の特有の揺れを残したまま再構築した、どこかノスタルジックで神秘的な独奏集となっております。

This precious collection of recordings was released by the London-based label Death Is Not The End—known for unearthing hidden musical treasures from around the world—and features a reconstruction by contemporary kantele player Arja Kastinen. She blends her own playing with field recordings captured 110 years ago on a hand-cranked wax cylinder phonograph by Iivana Mišukka, a renowned kantele player from the Karelia region of southern Finland. The album faithfully recreates traditional Karelian folk dance music using period-authentic techniques, showcasing the kantele’s shimmering, gentle tone—reminiscent of the zither, koto, or guitar. Preserving the original’s scratchy audio quality, surface noise, and the characteristic pitch fluctuations of old wax cylinder recordings, the result is a solo collection that feels both nostalgic and mystical.
