台湾のBeat Collective「NOD TOWN」のメンバー、rodionnによるニュー・ビートテープ『Loose Joints』。

本作には、2021年から現在に至るまでに制作された楽曲群を収録。Kev Brown、DJ Harrison、Karriem Rigginsらから影響を受けたrodionnは、演奏の質感を感じさせるビートに強く惹かれ続けてきた。収録曲の多くはサンプリングを軸とせず、Bass、Drums、Keysなどの楽器演奏をもとに構築されている。素材を切り貼りするよりも、一からグルーヴを組み上げていくプロセスそのものに重きを置いている。 本作を貫く最も重要な要素はBassだ。 Bassは単なる低音域の支えではなく、楽曲同士を結びつける軸として機能している。

リズムの推進力、メロディの流れ、そして楽曲ごとの空気感の変化に至るまで、その存在は作品全体に深く刻まれている。『Loose Joints』は、rodionnがBassを通してBeat Musicの構造やグルーヴのあり方を探求した記録とも言えるだろう。 本作は、整然さや完璧さを目指した作品ではない。 演奏の中で生まれるわずかな揺らぎやズレ、そしてタイトルにも通じる“Loose”な感覚をあえて残している。rodionnにとって、本当のグルーヴとは、すべてが正確に揃った場所ではなく、わずかに噛み合わない瞬間の中にこそ存在するものなのだ。

This release features a collection of tracks produced from 2021 to the present. Influenced by artists such as Kev Brown, DJ Harrison, and Karriem Riggins, rodionn has always been strongly drawn to beats that convey a sense of live performance. Many of the tracks are not built around sampling but are constructed from live instrumentation such as bass, drums, and keys. Rather than cutting and pasting samples, he places emphasis on the process of building the groove from scratch. The most important element running through this album is the bass. The bass serves not merely as a low-end foundation but as the axis that ties the tracks together.

From the driving force of the rhythm and the flow of the melody to the shifting atmosphere of each track, its presence is deeply ingrained throughout the entire work. “Loose Joints” can be seen as a record of rodionn’s exploration of the structure of beat music and the nature of groove through the bass. This album does not aim for orderliness or perfection. It deliberately retains the slight fluctuations and misalignments that arise during performance, as well as the “loose” sensation reflected in the title. For rodionn, true groove does not exist where everything is precisely in sync, but rather in those moments when the elements are slightly out of sync.
