イギリスが産んだ鬼才Darren CunninghamことActressによる2023年リリース9作目のフル·アルバム。黎明期のオンライン·チェスがモチーフになっており、タイトルはチェス盤のマス目(8×8)を表わしているようです。チェスなどに必要とされる"ゲーム理論"や"戦略的思考"を制作のプロセスに、先攻と後攻を有するその構造自体を取り込み、曲ごとにジャンルやビート、BPMが移り変わることでその攻防戦を表現したという本作。初期作品を彷彿とさせるビット·クラッシュ·サウンドで聞き手を深みへと没入させる実験的な意欲作です。

This is the ninth full-length album by British prodigy Darren Cunningham, aka ACTRESS, released in 2023. The title of the album seems to refer to the squares of a chessboard (8x8). The production process is based on the “game theory” and “strategic thinking” required in chess and other games, and incorporates the structure of the game itself, with its first and second attacks, and the changing genres, beats, and BPM of each song expresses the battle between the attacker and defender. It is an experimental and ambitious work that immerses the listener in the depths with a bit-crash sound reminiscent of his early works.
