米国メンフィス出身のソウル/R&Bボーカル･グループ The Mad Lads が、1990年に発表したアルバムのデッドストック･テープです。彼らの黄金期を支えた、Stax 傘下の名門ソウル･レーベル Volt Records のブランド復活に伴い、前作から約16年ぶりのカムバック作品としてリリースされました。1960年代の甘く切ないスウィート･ソウルで人気を博したグループですが、本作では90年代の幕開けにふさわしい洗練されたアーバンなサウンドや、当時流行していたブラック･コンテンポラリー･スタイルを大胆に取り入れています。1965年に放った彼らの大ヒット曲をとろけるような極上スロウ･バラードとしてセルフ･カバーした"Don't Have To Shop Around"(B3)や、ソウル･ファンから評価の高いメロウなミディアム･ナンバー"Shoulda' Never Let Go"(A2)など全8曲を収録！

This is a deadstock cassette tape of the album released in 1990 by The Mad Lads, a soul/R&B vocal group from Memphis, USA. It marked their comeback—arriving some 16 years after their previous release—coinciding with the revival of Volt Records, the prestigious Stax-affiliated soul label that had supported them during their golden era. While the group originally gained popularity for the sweet, poignant soul sound of the 1960s, this album boldly incorporates a sophisticated urban sound and the "Black Contemporary" style that was trending at the dawn of the 90s. The eight-track collection includes "Don't Have To Shop Around" (B3)—a self-cover of their 1965 smash hit reimagined as a sublime, meltingly smooth slow ballad—and "Shoulda' Never Let Go" (A2), a mellow mid-tempo track highly acclaimed by soul fans.
