クイーンズブリッジの伝説 Nas が、1999年にリリースした4thアルバム『Nastradamus』。前作『I Am...』からわずか7ヶ月という異例のスパンで届けられた本作が、カセットフォーマットで入荷しました。

当初予定されていた2枚組アルバムの構想が音源のリークによって変更され、急遽新録曲を加えて再構成されたという特異な背景を持つ本作。L.E.S.を中心に、DJ Premier、Timbaland、Havoc、Dame Greaseといった当時の最高峰のプロデューサー陣が名を連ねています。

DJ Premierが手掛けた「Come Get Me」に見られるクイーンズブリッジの冷たい質感と、Timbalandによる「You Owe Me」に象徴される2000年代前夜のハイグロスなサウンドが混在。急造ゆえの粗さと、当時のヒップホップ・シーンにおける過渡期の熱量がそのままパッケージされたドキュメントとなっています。

“Nastradamus,” the fourth album released in 1999 by Queensbridge legend Nas. This album, delivered in an unusually short span of just seven months following his previous release, “I Am...,” has arrived in cassette format.

This album has a unique backstory: the originally planned double-album concept was altered due to leaked tracks, leading to a hasty reconfiguration that included newly recorded songs. Featuring a lineup of the era’s top producers—including L.E.S., DJ Premier, Timbaland, Havoc, and Dame Grease—centered around the L.E.S.

The album blends the gritty, cold texture of Queensbridge heard in DJ Premier’s “Come Get Me” with the high-gloss sound of the pre-2000s era symbolized by Timbaland’s “You Owe Me.” It serves as a documentary that captures both the rough edges resulting from its rushed production and the raw energy of the transitional period in the hip-hop scene at the time.
