We have stocked the November 2024 release from Jazz Sabbath, a UK jazz trio led by Adam Wakeman—longtime keyboardist and guitarist for Black Sabbath and the Ozzy Osbourne Band. The group operates under a unique and thoroughly committed conceit: claiming to be a jazz band formed in 1968 whose original songs were plagiarized by Black Sabbath and released as heavy metal tracks. This album is presented as their "true" debut—recordings from 1968 that were originally shelved by their record label for being too experimental. While the backstory is entirely a joke, the heavy metal riffs and dark melodies are brilliantly reimagined through a stylish, 1960s-style acoustic jazz trio lineup of piano, upright bass, and drums.
