This second full-length album, released approximately two years after her sensational debut album, "Born to Die," sold over 12 million copies worldwide. Produced largely by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, it's an ambitious work that moves away from her trademark baroque pop and creates a darker, more oppressive, and slower sound. Rolling Stone magazine praised it as "perfect for a Quentin Tarantino James Bond film." Many of her songs are passionate, often about dysfunctional relationships with older men or lovers, and her veiled vocal style, which deliberately hides or obscures the full story, seems to have acquired an even more aura.
